After spending the last month refereeing at various elite 7s tournaments, it really got me thinking about how important it is for high school players looking to move up to the higher levels of rugby to have both accurate short and long passes. Many high school players may have mastered short passes, but rarely do I see young players (save maybe the Scrumhalf) have the ability to pass longer than 5-10 meters. This is a great video with some drills to work on building your long passing skills:
Here’s another oldie but goodie, featuring our good friend Coach Matt Sherman who is now at West Point Military Academy:
Many of these drills can be done with just a few friends, or even on your own. Taking the time to work on your passing (short and long) will make you a very valuable recruit indeed!
